Paper Cuts
Bob was fascinated with the paper engineering involved in creating a children’s pop-up book. He studiously disassembled and reassembled to master the intricate folding, cutting, and layering required to make paper come alive. Then he applied these skills to create handmade books, paper sculptures and framed works he called Paper Cuts.
Below are examples from his artist book, Ocean Motion. Copies of this book and others are located in museum collections, at universities with book-making programs, and in private collections. One copy is available for sale. Send message through Contacts if interested.
Pop Outs
As Bob aged, his vision limited what he could do because paper cuts involved, precise measurements and an Xacto-Knife. So he switched to using scissors and began to create a new form which he called Pop Outs.
Pop Outs are 3D Collages created from cut, twisted, layered, woven, and glued colored paper pieces at times placed within a mat, sometimes escaping the mat, or standing on their own as relief sculpture.
Each Pop Out is a signed, original work, created from Canson archival paper.
Below are some of both Bob's Paper Cuts and his Pop Outs. If you are interested in purchasing any of these pieces, additional photographs and dimension details will be sent upon request. All Bob's artwork is sold subject to buyer approval.
